It transpires that the copy of the soundtrack of the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe which I bought in HMV some time ago will not play on my laptop which runs Vista.
It dates from a period when EMI, frantic about the rise in illicit file sharing, decided to hamstring people who legitimately bought CDs to listen to. Now this wouldn’t matter except there are two tracks on the album which I particularly like, namely, Evacuating London which is here on YouTube and Wunderkind by Alanis Morrisette. Sometimes this stuff appeals to my mind more than other times.
I could of course download the album from iTunes, cost, 7.99 but I already spent at least 20E on the CD, bought at a time when I actually listened to music through a CD player rather than lately when it’s all via the computer or an iPod. Also, the damn thing is supposed to play on Windows Media Player, versions 9+. If my computer can’t even find the disc in the disc drive without doing a hell of a lot of bumping and grinding, I am not convinced that it’s ever going to be playable.
I know EMI has since gone DRM free. But again…this was stupid.
