Dermot Ahern is the bright spark who brought us blasphemy legislation. Now he wants to set up a DNA database. Unfortunately RTE are a bit sparse on the details about this.
I have no objection to a DNA database per se, however, that objection is dependent on it being of a non-Big Brother variety of database and there being some serious privacy rules applied. Default position should be for the average citizen not to be on it. I also want to be damn sure that no one is going to be stupid enough to go losing USB keys, laptops, CDs, passwords to said database.
The issue is that while there are lots of politicians I don’t trust simply because they are politicians, there is Dermot Ahern whom I don’t trust because of the blasphemy saga and some of the comments he made around it. In other words, I sort of wish someone else had Justice. I really do.
