I appreciate the reply Niall.

In part, there's probably this wider issue in Irish society of judgmentalism and gossip and so reputation is hugely important.

Libel is a minefield for the unwary publisher. Consider this: many years ago a company, "X Ltd" went into liquidation. The liquidator compiled a list of debtors and creditors. This showed that the company was insolvent. A publication "Y Ltd" then published the list.

Almost immediately "Y Ltd" was contacted by "Z" who was named as a substantial creditor. Z informed "Y Ltd" that he had been paid by "X Ltd" some months earlier and therefore was not a creditor of the company. He went on to claim that "Y Ltd" had defamed him by stating that he was a substantial creditor who was not going to be paid. "Z" claimed that this damaged his credit status because others would think that he was now short of money.

"Y Ltd" paid out a substantial sum in an out of court settlement because it could not risk the costs involved in losing a libel action.

Large publishers pay lawyers to read copy before it is published. Sometimes items get through and then the fun starts! It is possible to insure against libel claims but this is horrendously expensive and many publishers simply cannot afford it.

There is a song called "Wisdom" on their new album - the lyrics are sublime!

Niall I am inclined to wonder how many options we ever had.

Who in their right mind would get into politics given the print media we have in this country? And the competition to RTE on the television said makes RTE look terrific and the radio set up is erratic at best.

I wouldn't want to be involved. I think default position is no one sensible would want to get involved in politics so our options are a tad limited.

To those i would add:

1. A lifetime in heat - Guggenheim Grotto
2. Cold truth - Guggenheim Grotto

( The Guggenheim Grotto are an Irish band who spend most of their time in the US unfortunately)

You've pointed out a real problem. We are running out of options. The people in their wisdom have indicated that they do not want Enda as Taoiseach. They don't want Brian either. A majority favours Eamon. The only way that is going to happen is through a Lab/FF coalition!

Alternatively, remember Conor Cruise O'Brien's suggestion: merge FF and FG and call them Sinn Fein The Capitalists Party.

Thanks Niall.

I hadn't come across the Zapfino family before - they are lovely...I will file away I think.

The typeface above, by the way, is TallPaul. I really like it but do not remember when I picked it up. It is on a couple of the free font sites and the guy who designed it has a site at tallpaul.com
