Thank you Kevin.

I don't know if I'll manage it to be honest with you. I'm two courses into an Open University maths and statistics degree.

But it's a very enticing idea....

"I may buy this year. I may not. I may cash in all my chips and do a round the world trip" - in this depressing country that looks like a very appealing thing to do; unfortunately I'm getting a bit too old to do it without causing mayhem, but perhaps mayhem is my perception of the result of not conforming to society's expectations.
maybe by the time you get back from the round the world trip property prices will only be a fraction of what they are now.

Anyhow, good to see you writing again.

Hi Niall,

I have not been back to approve this over the last week or so - I am sorry for the delay.

A very happy Christmas to you too.

I have been looking at Ashbourne as well. I must have 100Mb broadband however. You're right that it's down to compromise; I just haven't identified what I can do without yet. I guess I will go on as normal for the moment.

Take care.

Quite right! I think that houses should be built around the deluxe dishwasher. People who don't have them just don't appreciate how useful, time saving, labour saving and economical they are!

As for houses, for the average person it comes down to a compromise between a little box in a dense urban area or a larger box further out from Centreville. I prefer the latter.

There are lots of very spacious, cheaper properties along the M1, M2 and M3. OK there is a longer commuting time to central Dublin and there is no late bus home from the pub. However rental and purchase prices are lower.

Healthwise, I don't think I'd like to live in the city again. County Meath air is cleaner and since I moved here my asthma disappeared as did all the chest infections I used to get. 40 minutes or so on the motorway gets me to Dublin 9, 5, 3 and Dollymount!

Have you ever considered short term rental in Meath as an experiment? Certainly I would never buy an apartment because I would not want to be bothered by management fees, management committees and arguments over services.

At the end of the day it comes down to compromise. I could afford to buy a large house in Cavan on a few acres....but I don't want the grass maintenance...and I could not do without my 100mb UPC connection!

Never mind! A whole New Year of new opportunities starts in less than two weeks...and property prices will continue to fall :)

Have a Very Happy Christmas!

Ditched it all today. I sort of feel my life is to short for messing around with things that aren't fitting together.

I've had the same problems with hairpin lace joining. And the Kristin Omdahl scarf I tried to make is still in strips as well because the silk/bamboo blend I used slips apart at the joins. I keep thinking I can turn it into some sort of trim for a sweater but, I'll see. Thanks for sharing!

Will completely agree that 40% of scary roads are in Kerry - our new SAT NAV thought it would be expedient to send us from Kenmare to Tralee via the scenic route from Inch to Camp. Ten minutes into the drive I was shouting at the GPS "Recalculating!!! Recalculating!!" - but once on it, that's where you are. My number two scary road is one on the Beara peninsula.

I don't necessarily get to choose who is Taoiseach though - we dev0lve that decision to the Dail. I'd like the President to be a symbol for the country but it's not like any of the current lot of candidates symbolise the country I want to live in.

What you say about Article 26 referrals is interesting; I had never thought of it in that way.

I'd be reluctant to vote away individual offices at present without a wider debate on political representation. I'd like a lot of local government reform and while I am not against the Senate in principle, I would like a change to how people get elected to the Senate.

But then I'd also like a say in who gets to spout nonsense on the radio too and I don't have that discretion either.
